NCAA-USST national university team

There is a gap between the physiological maturity necessary to compete in elite racing, be it NCAA or World Cup, and the chronological age of high school graduates. In some cases staying with a local club postgraduate program can be effective. In other cases, joining the USST D team may be effective, especially for a speed skier. Two years ago, another concept was introduced which led to the creation of the National University Team.

TA Foundation supports the belief that as a nation, we should provide education opportunities for our athletes without forcing them to abandon their ski racing dreams. After a successful trial year, the US Ski Team in conjunction with NCAA will continue to provide an alternative that incorporates the education element and a no-compromise athletic opportunity for eligible athletes.

2016 Program Objectives
  • Use FIS-U circuit as a development tool for the US Ski Team, while giving the opportunities needed to increase development of those athletes named to the team, as well as the younger, up and coming athletes
  • Integrate more with D & C US Ski Teams, upper level NTG through cooperative training sessions
  • Focus on tech events, as it has been widely evidential that all racers need tech focus at young ages and is most complementary to university race formats
